Thomas Brown: Ballance Moto X National

May 3, 2008

For the second round of the ATVA Motocross Nationals, we headed to the world-famous Ballance Moto X track. As usual, the track set up was amazing, with many technical sections, jumps, and perfectly groomed berms. Even with the predictions of cold and wet weather throughout the weekend, I tried to be optimistic and was excited about the race. Although I held out hope that Mother Nature would be on our side and let us enjoy some great racing, she had different plans in mind.

With shaky weather throughout the weekend, Sunday held some of the hardest rain showers and coldest weather of the weekend. The cement pad holeshot start was slick with rain and mud, causing everyone to struggle for traction. When the gate dropped, the 40 Pro Am riders spun to a slow motion start with only luck to count on in the mud. Making it to the first corner in 12th, I worked hard to try to find lines to pass, but the track conditions had become one lined and thick mud made it impossible to go anywhere fast. Struggling but persistent, I passed two riders, and finished the race in 10th.

Although this was a frustrating weekend for myself and my team, we are excited to say I am still second place in points for the Pro Am Production class, just one point behind first!
