Dustin Wimmer Wins TI Lube Top Qualifier Award at Millcreek

AMA Pro ATV rider Dustin Wimmer set the fastest time in final practice today for this afternoon's Spring National at Millcreek Raceway, winning the $100 Ti Lube Top Qualifier Award. The event is Round 2 of the ITP Tires/Moose Racing AMA/ATVA ATV Championship Series.

Wimmer (No. 191 MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper) led teammates Chad Wienen (No. 44 Team Rockstar/MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper) and Doug Gust (No. 55 Team Rockstar/MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper) during the final session, recording a blistering one-minute, 54.656-second lap. The session was run in wet conditions due to recent rainstorms and set up only a three-second gap from first through 10th on the grid.

"I'm really comfortable this weekend," said Wimmer. "The weather changes haven't really been an issue for me. I've just tried to keep my lines fluid and it's working out.

"The race is going to be won at the start," added Wimmer. "The wet conditions really make for a one-line race track, so the holeshot is really going to be the defining factor today."

Pro racing continues at noon with first moto. The second moto is scheduled for 3 p.m. A full card of Amateur, Youth and Women's racing is also on tap.

Wimmer Wins First Moto at Millcreek

Dustin Wimmer continued his dominance of the FMF Spring National at Mill Creek Raceway, winning the first of two AMA Pro ATV motos on Sunday. The event represents Round 2 of the 2008 ITP Tires/Moose Racing AMA/ATVA ATV Championship Series.

Wimmer (No. 191 Team MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper) started second behind Suspension Technologies Holeshot Award winner Josh Upperman (No. 20 Honda). Upperman went off track on the first lap, and Wimmer pounced, taking the lead for good. Behind Wimmer, Chad Wienen (No. 44 Team Rockstar/MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper) took second from John Natalie, Jr. early in the race and finished second. Natalie (No. 13 Can-Am) just held off defending Champion Joe Byrd (No. 7 IMS/Honda) in the final turn to finish third.

"I just stuck with Josh at the start, and when I saw my chance, I took it," said Wimmer, who remains undefeated this season. "From there, I just tried to stay smooth and hold my line. It's great to win another one!"

The second moto is scheduled for today at 3 p.m. CDT.

Dustin Wimmer dominated Sunday's first moto at Millcreek Raceway.
